Kathy Gill began her allied health education in radiologic technology where, in 1974, she was introduced to diagnostic medical sonography. After working a couple of years in radiology as a staff technologist, she obtained formal training in sonography and has been practicing as a sonographer ever since. She is ARDMS registered in the Abdomen, OB/GYN and Breast specialties and has worked in a variety of positions including staff sonographer, supervisor of sonography labs, mobile sonography, ultrasound applications specialist and program director for university and hospital based sonography programs. In the mid 1980’s with the encouragement and support of her husband, Kathy stepped into the entrepreneurial role by starting her own mobile service providing sonography services to private physician practices. At the same time, she moved from teaching in a hospital based program to open a private sonography program, the Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics which she continues to own and serve as Program Director today. Her career spans 30+ years and she will tell you that sonography is just as exciting to her, today, as it was when she watched her first sonogram in x-ray school. She is a Fellow of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
