The Gardener's Guide to Planting and Growing Trees by Michael W Buffin

This is a comprehensive guide to planting trees successfully in any size garden, whether as solitary decorative specimens, in small groups and woodland plantings, in beds and borders, in containers or under glass. It contains expert advice on the best trees for every season, revealing how they can be used to produce a range of colourful and seasonal effects, from spectacular spring blossom to dramatic autumn foliage. It provides helpful step-by-step photographic guidance on choosing, caring for and maintaining trees, conifers and palms throughout the year. Useful how-to sections explore the practicalities of growing trees. There is clear advice, illustrated with step-by-step techniques, on selecting the right tree for a plot, planting and arboriculture, and growing trees in containers and under glass. There is also easy-to-follow photographic guidance on staking, mulching, watering and feeding, as well as pruning, propagation and dealing with common problems. An invaluable alphabetical tree directory, including temperate and tropical trees, conifers and palms, is also included, giving horticultural information on reliable species and cultivars, growing requirements, season of interest, height and spread, and hardiness. This authoritative illustrated reference, with over 800 colour photographs, is the most comprehensive general sourcebook available and a classic reference for all gardeners.
