Gardening in the Shade by Alan R Toogood
Here is a guide for every gardener who wrongly believes that shady gardens are, by their very nature, dark, dull and uninteresting. No doubt this does apply to some, but the fault lies more certainly in the choice of plants, for there are numerous shade-loving plants that will brighten up the bleakest of comers. Shade in the garden is all too often seen as a problem. This concise, well-illustrated book goes a long way to proving that it can become one of the garden's assets.Alan Toogood, the editor-in-chief, is a seasoned horticulturist. He studied in the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden in Wisley, Surrey, after completing his training at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He is a freelance writer and journalist who has contributed to publications such as Gardener's Chronicle, Amateur Gardening, RHS's own magazine The Garden, and Greenhouse, where he served as Editor for many years. Other contributors to this book include herb specialist Jekka McVicar, vice-president of the RHS Council and president of the Herb Society, who is known for her organic herb garden in Gloucestershire; famous orchid expert Wilma Rittershausen; John Mattock, whose family has a 175-year history of rose producing; and recently retired executive vice-president of the RHS, who is known for her organic herb garden in Gloucestershire; and recently retired executive vice-president of the RHS Julian Shaw, who worked on DK's previous gardening bestseller RHS A-Z of Garden Plants, will modify the book for the 2019 version.
