Gardening with Young Children by Beatrys Lockie
Gardening with Young Children is a lively and imaginative guide to a child's experience of a year in a garden. Experienced gardener Beatrys Lockie explains the basic techniques, from sowing the seeds to harvesting the produce, and gives instructions for cultivating easily grown flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
The author also describes projects using berries, seeds, and leaves, delicious and simple recipes, plus stories, songs, and poems about the insects, birds, and animals of the gardening world.
The activities in this Early Years book are suitable for gardens of all shapes and sizes--even for a few pots on a balcony or small patio.
Beatrys Lockie was born in Holland in 1927 and at an early age began telling stories to anyone who would listen. She was a class teacher at the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School, where stories form an integral part of teaching in the early years. She has also been a passionate gardener since childhood and tends an organic garden, which she opens each year to the public for charity. She lives in the Scottish Borders.
