Gathering Storm by Morris Dees
Since 1979, Morris Dees, chief trial lawyer for the Southern Poverty Law Center and its Militia Task Force, and his associates have been monitoring organized racists and far-right extremists through an intensive intelligence operation called the Klanwatch Project. They gather information from public sources, recorded speeches and publications of the groups they monitor, law enforcement sources, court depositions, Internet postings, informers, and, in some cases, carefully conducted undercover operations. Their database, computerized and cross-referenced, now contains more than 75,000 entries and is shared with more than 6,000 law enforcement sources. Prosecutors across America have used this intelligence information to successfully convict more than 20 white supremacists of hate crimes. aGathering Storm: - goes behind the scenes to explore secret paramilitary cells training deep in mountainous back country- shows that these -super-patriots' and similar fanatics see themselves in a life-and-death struggle to reclaim the country- provides convincing evidence that they will again unless we deal with the threat.
