Gay in the 80s by Colin Clews
The 80s wasn't the best decade for LGBT people around the world. Challenges included the rise of the New Right in the USA, Section 28 and the trial of Gay's the Word bookshop in the UK and the continuing criminalisation of homosexuality in the majority of Australian states. And overlaying all of this was the unfolding of the AIDS crisis.
Colin Clews has been a LGBT activist since the early 1980s, beginning his involvement just before the emergence of AIDS and consequently spending much of his career in that field. In 2012, he began a blog, Gay in the 80s, on which he documents LGBT social, political and cultural issues of the 1980s.
