After a successful career in advertising and television, Malcolm Boyd was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1955. When he said his prayers accompanied by some of America's best-known musicians, he was called the coffeehouse priest by Time Magazine in the 1960s. Boyd has a lengthy history of civil rights activism, beginning with a Freedom Ride in 1996. In Indianapolis, Colorado, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Santa Monica, Calif., he served parishes and college chaplaincies. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his two-decade-long boyfriend, Mark Thompson, an novelist, editor, and therapist.
Boyd, a poet and writer-in-residence at the Cathedral Center of St. Louis, is the author of multiple publications. Paul is a priest in the Los Angeles Episcopal Diocese.
