Walt Morey was an award-winning author of children's fiction based in the United States. The Pacific Northwest and Alaska, where Morey spent his whole life. Gentle Ben was based on his book Gentle Ben, which was adapted into the 1967 film Gentle Giant and the 1967-1969 television series Gentle Ben.
