Pierson, Arthur Tappan: - Arthur Tappan Pierson (18371911), was an American Presbyterian pastor with a wide and varied transatlantic ministry that made him famous in Scotland and England. This pioneer of fundamentalism preached over 13,000 sermons in his lifetime, delivered Bible lectures in venues like Moody Bible Institute, and penned over fifty books. He served as a consulting editor for the original Scofield Reference Bible (1909) for his friend, C. I. Scofield and counted as friends such men as D. L. Moody, George Mller, Adoniram Judson Gordon, and C. H. Spurgeon (whom he succeeded in the pulpit of the Metropolitan Tabernacle, London).
