The Froehlich Foundation holds one of the finest private collections of contemporary art in the world. By focusing on the work of 19 major artists from the United States and Germany, the collection traces the most notable developments of post-war American and German art. This work includes 330 works which are fully documented and illustrated. Also included are essays by Stefan Germer and Thomas McEvilley on aspects of the German and American cultural relationship since 1945, and an interview with the collection's founder, Joseph W. Froehlich. The ten American artists represented are: Carl Andre, Richard Artschwager, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, On Kawara, Bruce Nauman, Frank Stella, Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol. From Germany, the nine artists included are: Georg Baselitz, Joseph Benys, Anselm Kiefer, Imi Knoebel, Blinky Palermo, A.R. Penck, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter and Rosemarie Trockel. Works from the Froehlich Collection will be included in Tate Gallery New Displays 1996.
