Hideaki Sorachi was born on May 25, 1979, in Hokkaido, Japan, and grew up there. Gin Tama, his continuous series, became a major smash when it first appeared in Japan's Weekly Shonen Jump in 2004. Soon after, a Gin Tama animated series aired on Japanese television, beginning in April 2006. Sorachi debuted in manga with Dandelion, a one-shot story included in volume 1 of the graphic novels.
