In this book, Jonathan Brown surveys the development of painting in Spain during this period, focussing on the interaction between art and the prevailing socio-economic and political conditions. Jonathan Brown has worked for many years at the Museum of English Rural Life, where he is now an honorary fellow, after conducting research on the rural history of Lincolnshire at the University of Manchester. He is the author of several publications on rural history, including Eric Guy's Rural World, Farming in Lincolnshire 1850-1945, and Steam on the Farm.
