The book itself covers both the BBC and the early commercial stations and contains over 1600 entries which include "Itma", "Hancock's Half Hour", "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again", and radio characters which include Stinker Murdoch, Gilbert Harding, Richard Dimbleby and the Ovaltinies. The author is the creator of "Sounds Familiar" on radio and "Looks Familiar" on television.

DENIS GIFFORD is the author of more than 50 books, many of them pioneering catalogs of British film production, including The British Film Catalogue, British Animated Films, and The Illustrated Who's Who in British Films. He has created many well-remembered radio and television series in the UK. A former cartoonist, he has also lectured on comics and film throughout the world.
