The Royal and Ancient is one of the game's oldest Golf Clubs and the most influential in the world. Formed in 1754, the R&A has played a major role in the development of the game, and in 1897, at the suggestion of the leading clubs the governing authority on the Rules of Golf. Since then over 100 countries have been granted affiliation to it.
