Gothic Lolitas by Sergio Guinot
Gothic Lolitas began as a phenomenon in Japan in the late 90s, and their image as Victorian-era cleaning ladies has since expanded within the world of manga. Endowed with a certain aura of mystery, their illustration requires a specific technique used for complex garments and adolescent physiognomy. This volume uncovers how to tackle the creation of this character in a clear, instructive and easy to visualize fashion.Jan 11
(Reviewed with 'Manga Chibis')
I find the world of Manga difficult to warm to - I can appreciate the technical abilities in creating a world of fantasy figures, but cannot understand the huge phenomenon they have becomeNot so my grandchildren who seize upon new books with glee and devour the contents. These two books were immediately grabbed by Beth who is 9 and Nathan who is 6 - they simply were transfixed by the Chibis and spent reams of paper copying the steps and creating and colouring their own chibis. I think the Lolitas may appeal more to a slightly older age groups as well as the young adults that adore the whole manga genre. Both these books carry simple easy to understand instructions for beginning the figures and follow up with plentiful advice on shading and colouring to make realistic ( if you can say that about fantasy figures!) and believable characters.
If you've friends of family interested in Manga these books will be a super addition to their collection and if like me you've young grandchildren the Chibis will give you a peaceful time while they devise their own characters and give them an enjoyable introduction to how creating their own art is so satisfying and enjoyable.
