Summary

While a boy sleeps, a pencil writes its story on a piece of paper - how it lived in a box of other pencils in a shop, and how, before that, it was part of a tall tree. The paper, the table, the door and the window all tell their tales until the boy is suddenly woken.

Grandfather's Pencil And The Room Of Stories by Michael Foreman

As a small boy slips into the dreamy world of sleep the everyday objects in his bedroom bring to life their histories. The pencil recalls life as a tall tree, the paper remembers the trill of the river-ride as a log and the floorboards creakily sigh at the memory of being the bows of a great sailing ship. In the world of imagination, everything has a wonderful tale to tell.
Michael Foreman's numerous books for children have earned him widespread recognition as one of the world's leading illustrators. He has worked on a vast range of children's books, and has collaborated with Terry Jones on all of his books for children.
