James Martin began cooking at an early age with his father, who ran the catering at Castle Howard in Yorkshire. By the age of 12 James had cooked for the Queen Mother; at 16 he started his formal training before embarking on an early career in London and France and then opened the Hotel du Vin and Bistro in Winchester as Head Chef, at the age of 21. As presenter on Saturday Kitchen, James has become one of the best known and popular TV chefs.
