The Great Wall Revisited by William Lindesay

A journey along the Great Wall in the past and present, this landmark volume presents an extraordinary portrait of the world's most famous man-made structure. Author/photographer William Lindesay spent three years traveling 35,000 km across North China, carrying his cameras, tripod and a file of vintage photographs, the earliest dating from 1871, looking for places from which he could see the Great Wall in the past and present, side by side. .
'The Great Wall was first placed on the World Monuments Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites in 2002 and 2004, in recognition of both the extraordinary importance of this structure and the growing threats to its survivalWilliam Lindesay vividly depicts the enduring beauty of the Wall, whose history stretches back over 2000 years, and its marked deterioration in only the last century. His work poignant reminds us of our responsibility to protect this architectural heritage if it is to survive for future generations.'
