Stirling was the birthplace of Scottish theologian and biologist Henry Drummond (1851-1897). He attended Edinburgh University and was appointed professor of Natural Science at Glasgow's Free Church College in 1884. He visited the Rocky Mountains, Central Africa, Japan, and Australia, among other places. Natural Law in the Spiritual World, The Ascension of Man, and Tropical Africa are among his works.
