Greenwood Dark by Christopher Somerville
Christopher Somerville has been walking, exploring and writing all over the world for almost 30 years, and these poems are the fruits of those long experience. Read individually, they are true traveller observations of people, places, moods and reflections as they strike him. As a collection they take the reader on a vivid, moving and unforgettable adventure through Britain and Ireland, and on across the wider world. The poet sets his work in context with short prose descriptions of the circumstances in which each poem came to be written.
"'Somerville is well known for his lyrical descriptions of country walksThat same lyricism informs this fine collection of poetry... the poems are tautly written and evocative. Some of the most vivid are set in Crete, which the author illuminates with a craftsman's care.' Daily Telegraph 'The lilt of his muse is often lyrical and Celtic. Somerville proves himself to be a fine poet... truly a master in his sympathy for life. We can only welcome an important new voice.' Gary Bills, Friends of the Dymock Poets"
