Helen FitzGerald is the second youngest child in a family of thirteen. She grew up in the little town of Kilmore, Victoria, Australia, and went to the University of Melbourne to study English and History. Helen arrived to Glasgow University through India and London, where she earned a diploma and a master's degree in social work. She has over 10 years of experience as a criminal justice social worker, the most of which she spent at HMP Barlinnie, where she assisted in the release of violent offenders. Sergio Casci, a screenwriter, is her husband, and they have two children.
