Krar worked in the industry for 15 years, initially as a machinist and then as a tool and die manufacturer. After that, he went to Teachers' College and received a Specialist's Diploma in Machine Shop Practice from the University of Toronto. Krar was active in vocational and technical education during his 20 years as a teacher, serving on the executive committees of a number of educational organizations. He worked for ten years on the summer staff of the University of Toronto's College of Education, where he was active in teacher training programs. Steve Krar, a Life Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and former associate director of the GE Superabrasives Partnership for Manufacturing Productivity, is active in machine tool associations.

In March 2009, he was inducted into the Canadian Manufacturers Hall of Fame. Krar's continuous research in manufacturing technology over the last 50 years has included various courses with leading world manufacturers and the opportunity to study under Dr. W. Deming, Edwards Krar spent a week in Switzerland investigating Nanotechnology at prominent research institutes, universities, and businesses.

He is the coauthor and consultant for more than 80 technical books, including Machine Shop Training, Machine Tool Operations, CNC Simplified, Superabrasives--Grinding and Machining, and Exploring New Manufacturing Technologies, which have been translated into five languages and are used all over the world.
