Growing Older, Living Longer by Teresa Hunt
In this study, Teresa Hunt explores recent research into ageing, asking whether modern elixirs like cell therapy, gerontal, ginseng and vitamins can help us to live longer. Early studies suggest that the ageing process is susceptible to control - a baby born at the turn of the century could expect to reach the age of 47, while now a child could look forward to being 74. The author asks whether we could eventually live to be 200 years old; whether nature has created ageing more by chance than design; whether we are programmed to die and if so, whether that programme can be interrupted? Old age does not have to mean inevitable decline - scientists already understand why the body's defence mechanisms weaken with old age and why choosing the right marriage partner might prolong life by preventing that decline. Teresa Hunt joined the BBC Science and Features department in 1979 and has since produced programmes for "Tomorrow's World", "Horizon", "Bodymatters" and "QED". Bodley Head plans promotional activity including radio, television and press interviews with the author.| SKU | Unavailable |
