Handbook of Individual Therapy by Windy Dryden

An introduction to 12 key approaches to individual therapy. Historical context and development in Britain, theoretical assumptions, practice and case example are discussed for each different approach.
`[For] a summary of the whole range of therapies in a particular book, this [is] a very good place to go.. useful as part of an introductory course, as it covers a very wide range of areas′ - British Journal of Medical Psychology

Some reviews of previous editions...

`A concerted attempt to give an overview of the diversity of contemporary therapy... this book has clarified and updated my understanding, particularly in terms of the subtleties of contemporary practice. I will recommend the book to undergraduates and to students of counselling and therapy. I can also see it being read by practitioners who are able to look outside the universe of their own school. It is a book which accepts and even celebrates the diversity of ideas in the field. It stimulates interest and informs. It stirs up debates, and leaves the reader to continue to think about them... an important book, not to be missed by any serious counselling student or practitioner′ - British Journal of Guidance and Counselling

`Written by excellent people... this is a model of what such books should be. The editor has taken a lot of trouble to make sure that the contributors have written in such a way as to make the different approaches really comparable... I would strongly recommend this book to anyone working in the field of psychotherapy or training as a counsellor or therapist. There is nothing else like it available′ - Self & Society

`To the student this book is a must as it gives such complete coverage of the main fields of psychotherapy available today. To the possible client it would be useful to help him or her select a therapy within which they would be most comfortable. To the practising counsellor or psychotherapist who has already chosen his or her theoretical approach, it is informative and thought-provoking′ - Irish Association for Counselling Newsletter
