Provides fundamental information on a broad spectrum of essential topics in health-system pharmacy practice. From an overview of health delivery systems and hospital pharmacy through various practice settings such as home care, long term care, hospice and palliative care, ambulatory care, and managed care this text focuses on various elements important to health-system pharmacies.
Dr. Brown was born in Jackson, MS in 1940, completed High School at Forest Hill, his BS in Pharmacy in 1963 and MS in Hospital Pharmacy in 1971 at the University of Mississippi and Doctor of Pharmacy in 1974 at the University of Tennessee, USA. His employment includes several years in community practice, two years with Eli Lilly and Company in sales, four years in the US Army Medical Service Corps including duty as a Company Commander, 3d Infantry Division Medical Supply Officer and two years as Director of Pharmacy at the US Army Hospital, Vicenza, Italy. He joined the faculty at Ole Miss in 1970 became full Professor in 1985 and served as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Administration for seven years (1986-1992). Dr. Brown has published numerous professional articles, four editions of the Handbook of Institutional Pharmacy Practice as Editor or Co-Editor with Dr. Mickey Smith, is a member of numerous professional, honorary and leadership organizations, and has received several awards including being named a Fellow in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Dr. Brown retired from full-time teaching in 1999 but has continued to teach part-time. He and his wife, Bonnie, reside in Oxford, MS and have two sons (a pharmacist and a physician) and three grandchildren.
