The Handbook of Offshore Cruising by Jim Howard
This handbook discusses everything the offshore cruiser needs to know about selecting, fitting out, maintaining and handling a blue water cruising boat, as well as managing the cruising lifestyle both at sea and in port. There is practical advice on: selecting a boat and rig; optimum deck and cabin layouts; the electrical, plumbing and self-steering systems; voyage planning; provisioning; money management; security; and coping with heavy weather both at sea and in port. This second edition includes a new 32-page colour section with photographs by Onne van der Wal.
Jim Howard has cruised the oceans of the world for over 25 years, often single-handed. He left the East Coast of the United States to begin a circumnavigation of the world and has been sailing in the Pacific for a number of years. He has co-authored two books on sailing that have been translated into Japanese and has also written for two Japanese sailing magazines and for Cruising World. Onne van der Wal, whose photos appear in this second edition, is one of the best-known marine photographers worldwide. His work can be found in every major sailing publication.
