Peter Kenny, a graduate of Birmingham and Oxford Universities, worked for the National Coal Board (later British Coal) as a research scientist and subsequently as the manager of several technical departments. He was British Coal's Reliability Manager at the time of his early retirement, reporting to the Chief Engineer. Since then, he has worked as a private tutor and taught mathematics and science courses in institutes of higher education. He is a Chartered Physicist and a Chartered Engineer, as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and a Member of the Institute of Materials. He has authored a number of technical studies as well as general interest articles. He has a LAMDA diploma in public speaking, and his book A Handbook of Public Speaking for Scientists and Engineers is about it.
