Healing the Soul in the Age of the Brain by Elio Frattaroli

In a vulnerable but valiant debut, Christopher Ferreiras blurs the line between memory & myth, tragedy & triumph, recovery & healing, nostalgia & love, poem & not poem. Divided into five sections that chronicle one's journey from day into night, these poems meditate on the nature of relationships and change. Each chapter seeks reliable truths upon which to stay grounded, a sky to put the struggles of becoming in perspective, and a north star to reveal one's path through their coming of age. This is a day in the life, years in the making--the courage to dream and wake up ready to face oneself & the world. Between these pages, a boy falls in love, learns to fly by letting go, and allows himself to forgive & live. And you can too.

Elio Frattaroli, M.D., is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in full time private practice. He is on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia and is also an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. He studied Shakespeare at Harvard and trained with Bruno Bettelheim at the University of Chicago before turning to medicine. He has written and lectured on Shakespeare as well as on psychiatry and psychoanalysis. This is his first book.
