Hot, dry winds sweep across the land carrying a cloud of dusty soil. The air is filled with the choking dust. Here and there, wilted plants struggle for survival in the cracked earth. No water flows in the wide riverbed.
Carol Baldwin is a freelance writer in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has written for a variety of local and national publications.
