Siobhán Campbell is an Irish author noted for poems characterized by keen intelligence, cool skepticism, rich textures and wryly witty observations. Her new collection from Seren, Heat Signature, continues her fascination with power and responsibility as she skewers our most cherished notions in sharply memorable poems.
Siobhán Campbell was born in Ireland and has lived in Dublin and London as well as San Francisco and Washington DC. Widely published in the USA and UK, she has won awards in the National Poetry Competition, the Troubadour International Poetry Competition, the Templar Poetry Prize and most recently was awarded the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Prize. She has an MA from the University College Dublin, a PhD from Lancaster University and has pursued postgraduate study at NYU and the New School in New York. She joined the Open University Department of English from Kingston University London where she was Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing. Her work is anthologized widely including in The Field Day Anthology of Irish Literature (NYU Press), Identity Parade (Bloodaxe) and The Golden Shovel Anthology in honour of Gwendolyn Brooks (Uni of Arkansas Press). Heat Signature is her fourth full collection following Cross-Talk from Seren: ‘unsparingly strong… a fine and ferocious book’ PNReview. She is the co-editor of Inside History: the work of Eavan Boland (Arlen House) and Stories and Poems by Combat Veterans (KUP). She has contributed essays on poetry to Poetry Ireland, The Portable Poetry Workshop (Palgrave) and Making Integral: Critical essays on Richard Murphy (CUP). Campbell has broadcast her work on BBC and RTE radio and has given many readings including at Poetry Now, Berkeley University, Ottawa International Festival and Glasgow Arts Festival.
