Hegel's political philosophy has long been associated with some form of social or welfare liberalism. Ferro claims that Hegel's account of the state should be read not as a complement to his characterization of civil society, but as a direct challenge to its underlying logic. Bernardo Ferro is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Philosophical Studies, University of Coimbra, Portugal. He is the author of Masters, Slaves and Philosophers (2022) and has published articles and reviews in journals including the European Journal of Philosophy, Philosophy & Social Criticism, Inquiry, Critical Horizons, and the Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie.
