Born in the city of Saint. Anya grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, listening to Cardinals baseball and reading all she could get her hands on. She recalls her mother telling her that if she had read the correct books instead of binge-reading the romance aisles at the bookshop, she would have been a doctor. Anya never received her doctorate, although she did graduate with honors from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Louis has a master's degree.
