Here to Stay by Sara Farizan
Bijan Majidi is:
- Shy around girls
- Really into comics
- Decent at basketball
- A terrorist
If his name is Bijan Majidi, life is suddenly high fives in the hallways and invitations to exclusive parties--along with an anonymous photo sent by a school cyberbully that makes Bijan look like a terrorist.
The administration says they'll find and punish the culprit. Bijan wants to pretend it never happened. He's not ashamed of his Middle Eastern heritage; he just doesn't want to be a poster child for Islamophobia. Lots of classmates rally around Bijan. Others make it clear they don't want him or anybody who looks like him at their school. But it's not always easy to tell your enemies from your friends.
Here to Stay is a painfully honest, funny, authentic story about growing up, speaking out, and fighting prejudice.
Sara Farizan was born in Massachusetts, the daughter of Iranian immigrants. She has an MFA from Lesley University and a BA from American University in film and media studies. Sara grew up in a private high school where she felt unusual not only because of her ethnicity, but also because of her romantic interest in girls, her lack of enthusiasm for science and math, and her passion of writing plays and short stories. So, in college, she came out in the closet, learned that math and physics weren't so bad (but weren't for her), and decided to pursue a career as a writer. Sara has worked as a waitress, a comic book/record store employee, an art magazine blogger, a marketing temp, and an after-school teacher, but she has always been a writer first and foremost.
Sara lives in the Boston area, enjoys Kurosawa films, eighties R&B, and graphic novels, and believes that all children are wonderful. She is the bestselling author of Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel and If You Could Be Mine.
