Hieronymus Betts and His Unusual Pets by M P Robertson
Hieronymus Betts certainly has some very unusual pets. All of his pets are gruesome and disgusting, but Hieronymus knows of something slimier than Slugapotamus, fiercer than the grizzly hare and greedier than the Sabre-Toothed Rhino Toad! Dare you read this book to find out?
Robertson's illustrations of the 'pets' are incredibly imaginative amalgams of well-known creatures, drawn in detail, with vivid coloursThe creatures are indeed gruesome, but there is a strong element of humour which children would find appealing. www.writeaway.org.uk ... splendid wordplay, a strong sense of the ridiculous - this should have young children both cringing and laughing Books for Keeps This is a wacky and entertaining book with amazing illustrations -- John Paine English 4-11
