An Historical Disquisition Concerning the Knowledge Which the Ancients Had of India by William Robertson
The Scots historian William Robertson (1721-93) published this work in 1791. It is a synthesis of all earlier western accounts of India from classical times to the sixteenth century, and a long appendix describes 'the genius, the manners, and institutions of the people of India'.
William P. Robertson was born in 1950 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. While attending Lincoln Elementary School, he devoured any book he could find about colonial America. He especially loved reading the biographies of Daniel Boone, Dan Morgan, and George Washington. Later, he became fascinated with historical fiction and read many books by Kenneth Roberts. The author's love of the 1700s led him to write three Alleghenies novels about French and Indian War battles that occurred in Northwestern Pennsylvania. All told, Robertson has penned over forty books that he hopes will preserve his area's heritage. When Bill isn't absorbed in his work, he enjoys trout fishing and listening to '70s rock & roll.
