This volume will be a very useful book for courses and seminars on Jesus or the historical Jesus, because it draws together in one place a wide variety of perspectives and approaches to the issues. "The hard work, insight, and creativity of the two editors of this important volume on the historical Jesus must be applauded right here at the startJames Dunn and Scott McKnight are two seasoned New Testament scholars who are well versed in the debate on the so-called historical Jesus. In this tour de force they worked through an endless volume of literature on this subject, from the start of the debate in the late 1700s until the present, to produce an introduction to the "quest of the historical Jesus" as well as to get to the heart of what this "quest" is all about." -- Stephan Joubert, Pretoria, South Africa in Review of Biblical Literature, July 2006.
