This book is taken from a series which encourages the young reader to deduce how our ancestors lived from a study of the primary evidence which has survived to this day or which has been unearthed by archaeologists. Life in Norman Britain is the subject of this book, based on the evidence that has survived from those times. We know about the Normans from three main sources: their buildings; the writings of the people who were alive at the time of the Normans; and finally, the Bayeux Tapestry, which provides a pictoral history of the invasion and conquest of Britain. The author uses all this evidence to build up a picture of what it was like in Norman times. Famed for their military achievements, he shows us that the Normans were also skilled governors and builders, who opened schools, established monasteries and built cathedrals and churches. The author, Tony Triggs, has written several other books in this series, including "Saxon Britain", "Tudor Britain", "Victorian Britain", and "Viking Britain".
