History of Beer and Brewing by Ian S Hornsey
A History of Beer and Brewing provides a comprehensive account of the history of beer and is a fascinating read for all enthusiasts. The book highlights how research carried out during the last quarter of the 20th century has permitted us to re-think the way in which some ancient civilizations went about their beer production, and in doing so covers a time-span of around eight thousand years. The reader is shown how various highly innovative technical developments have led to the sophistication and efficiency of 21st century brewing methodology. The book is aimed at a wide readership, with the use of original quotations and references enabling the serious scholar to delve into this subject in even greater depth.Likely the best book on beer I have ever read...trustworthy completeness. This is the best history I have encountered to date.

Following a successful career in academia as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Microbiology at Anglia Ruskin University, Ian Hornsey decided to concentrate on brewing. He co-founded and directed the Nethergate Brewery from 1985 until in 1999 oral cancer forced him to retire and take to writing about the science behind the brewing industry.
