A History of Stirling in 100 Objects by Elspeth King
A History of the World in 100 Objects by the British Museum and the BBC is a project which has fired the public imagination throughout the land. A History of Stirling in 100 Objects is the first published tribute act, demonstrating that the local, the national and the international are always present, wherever the place, and that the World is where we live. Compiled by Elspeth King and with photography by Michael McGinnes, collections curator, this book features 100 objects – all from the collections of the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum – that each show a different aspect of Stirling’s history. This book will appeal to everyone interested in finding out more about Stirling through its material culture, or anyone seeking to identify and cherish the objects which make their part of the world distinctive and special.
Elspeth King has worked as a museum curator since 1973 and is currently director at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum. She has won numerous awards including the Provost of Stirling's medal for arts and culture, the Fletcher of Saltoun Award (Saltire Society), and an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling for services to museums and Scottish history.
