From 1942 the hospital went under a major change in use, from a convalescent facility to an internationally recognized neuroscience centre. These changes are detailed, together with the personalities involved, and these details are set against their larger historical context.

Terry Gould is a Brooklyn-born investigative journalist who focuses on organized crime and social issues. He has won thirty-eight awards in Canada for his magazine writing, and because of his work on Asian crime, he was put under police protection for several months. His last book, The Lifestyle: A Look at the Erotic Rites of Swingers, was a bestseller in Canada and still sparks television and public speaking appearances across North America.
