The Hollow Heart by Martina Devlin
Tells the story of the author's journey from early bewilderment at being diagnosed as infertile, through the traumatic process of IVF, to the shattering fall-out when she realized that not only would she never have children, but that her relationship with her husband had been damaged beyond repair.
Omagh-born Martina Devlin started writing fiction after winning a Hennessy Literary Award for her first short story in 1996. This was followed by four novels, including Venus Reborn, which was short-listed for the Sunday Independent/Hughes and Hughes Irish Novel of the Year Award. She is a columnist with the Sunday World in Dublin.
