Homeland by John Jakes
The start of a cycle featuring an immigrant Chicago dynasty. Spanning the last decade of the 19th century, the action moves from Berlin to America and across a nation exploding with technological change, rapacious greed, social protest and political corruption. By the author of California Gold.
Born in Chicago in 1932, John Jakes began writing professionally when he was at university, having sold his first story for $25. He did freelance advertising copy while writing short stories and in 1973 started his 8-volume saga, The Kent Family Chronicles. All eight volumes were bestsellers.
