Max Frisch, a writer, playwright, diarist, and essayist who was born in Zurich in 1911, was one of the giants of twentieth-century writing. He died in 1991, the same year Volker Schlondorff turned Homo Faber into the critically acclaimed film Voyager, starring Sam Shepard.
