Martin Humphrey was born in London in 1956. He qualified as a veterinary surgeon at Glasgow University in 1979 and additionally as a farrier at the Hereford School of Farriery in 1983. He is, currently, the only person to be so doubly qualified and is a leading authority on horseshoeing. With Colonel John Hickman he is co-author of Hickman's Farriery, the standard shoeing textbook for farriers and veterinary surgeons worldwide. Martin Humphrey shoes horses every day of the week, dealing with all types of horses and ponies and specialising in orthopaedic farriery.
