A House of Praise, Part 2 by Timothy Dudley-Smith
A House of Praise brings together the collected hymn texts of one of the most respected and widely published contemporary English hymn-writers. Timothy Dudley-Smith has been writing hymn texts for more than 50 years and is represented in countless hymnals throughout the English-speaking world. This second part to the collected edition A House of Praise contains hymns written since 2002 (hymn Nos.286-435) and texts from three earlier books (A Door for the Word, Praise to the Name, and Beyond our Dreaming), revised and updated. The volume presents the definitive text of hymns, arranged thematically, and Notes and comprehensive Indexes.
Most eloquent.. These hymns have a remarkable way of pin-pointing exactly what the believer feels ... [they] have memorable words, superb phrases, and a progression through the verse which is entirely satisfying ... They are contemporary because they are timeless. * J. R. Watson, Church Times *
Educated at Cambridge University, Timothy Dudley-Smith was ordained in 1950 as assistant curate of St Paul's Church, Northumberland Heath. From 1953 he was head of the Cambridge University Mission in Bermondsey, London, and in the 1960s served as secretary of the Church Pastoral Aid Society. In 1973 he became Archdeacon of Norwich and in 1981 Bishop of Thetford; he retired in 1991. He is a Fellow of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada, and in 2003 was appointed an honorary vice-president of the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland. In the same year he was awarded an OBE for services to hymnody.
