How to Build a Universe by Ben Gilliland

The universe--demystified Using a combination of eye-catching graphics, humor, and erudite storytelling, science illustrator Ben Gilliland shows us how the cosmos came to be, from the formation of the first particles in the Big Bang to the development of the stars, galaxies, and planets, leading us up to the present . . . and into the future. Each chapter builds the story of the universe piece by piece, highlighting groundbreaking discoveries in physics from the likes of Albert Einstein, Max Planck, and Peter Higgs, with fun and enlightening sidebars throughout.
Ben Gilliland joined the Metro newspaper in 1999 as a graphics editor and started the weekly MetroCosm science column in 2005, using illustration to convey some of science's most complex ideas. Since then, MetroCosm has become one of the paper's most popular sections. In 2013, he won the Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Space Achievement, Media: Broadcast and Written. Gilliland has spoken about science journalism at the Royal Aeronautical Society and regularly teaches at the Media Space Summer School at Queen Mary, University of London. He lives in the UK.
