How to Make Felt by Anne Belgrave

Felt, one of man's earliest fabrics, dates back to prehistoric times but is still popular today. Easily hand-made in the home from unspun wool, simply by using soap, water and friction, it has countless creative applications. We are not dealing with the little squares of commerically made felt you can buy but with a vibrant, malleable fcreative textile that grows and develops under your hands, infinitely variable and made from pure natural wool. This book, written by an experienced and enthusiastic feltmaker, shows you in clear colour photographs how to make felt and how to create a wide range of stunning items which are made by shaping and forming in the felt-making process rather than by sewing: hats, bags, slippers, rugs, blankets, masks and wall hangings. Make plain or patterned felt; inlay multi-coloured designs into it; try out unusual wools such as llama, camel or alpaca; sew it or embroider it.

Anne Belgrave lives on the Welsh borders. After an initial training as a sculptor, she worked as a silversmith, and later as a weaver. As a result of keeping sheep and using their wool, she learnt about felt and was immediately intrigued by its potential. She now makes felt hats and rug for sale and exhibitions. She also fives lectures and runs workshops to inspire people to revive the ancient art of feltmaking.
