How to Sleep by Lucinda Ford

'Indispensable for those who find it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep' -Flow Magazine When sleeplessness becomes a regular occurrence, it can set up a vicious cycle of fatigue, anxiety, and insomnia. Finding ways to turn off the racing mind and prevent negative thoughts when going to sleep is an essential step towards solving sleep problems. In this indispensable guide, Lucinda Ford offers simple and effective techniques to help you break that vicious cycle and sleep better. The techniques in the HOW TO SLEEP book are designed to calm the mind and allow sleep to come naturally - a natural sleep remedy. They are distilled from the best of thinking from the East and the West, providing a scientific view balanced with the benefits of meditation. The techniques cover cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and meditation and mindfulness, taking lessons from each of these methods on how best to quiet your mind and find a calm place from which to fall asleep. By working through the techniques, you can learn to sleep better and move towards a place of better well-being.
'Both educational and practical, How to Sleep: A Natural Method gives valuable advice and tips to help with many of the leading causes of sleeplessness without people needing a PhD to understand it' - Ian Stockbridge, MNCS (Accred), MBABCP, MBACP
Lucinda Ford is an author of wellness, travel and environmental books.

She developed the sleep techniques during a time of emotional upheaval and great stress. Dogged by insomnia and with a stressful career flying out of control, she turned to the memory of a sleep technique that her father had taught her as a child.

Curious as to why it worked, but only sometimes worked, she delved into the science of sleep, which her led her to the psychotherapies of CBT and ACT. She also turned to the eastern practices of yoga, meditation and mindfulness.

It took a year, but by creating a unique blend of these practices, she built her way towards a happier and calmer place. Wanting to help others to more quickly and easily reach that same place, she put together this pocket-sized book to help those struggling with sleep problems due to stress, negative thoughts and depression.
