Before becoming an internationally-acclaimed and best-selling author/illustrator, David worked as a photographer and as an animation artist for films including the much-loved Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs. He was born in Oxford and still lives near the city with his wife and two children. His most popular picture book The Tale of Jack Frost was animated and shown on BBC1 on Christmas Day with a voice over by Hugh Laurie and it was shortlisted for the Pulcinella Award 2005 for 'Best TV Movie' category.
