In 1972, Sir Alan Bullock was knighted, and in 1976, he was appointed a life peer as Lord Bullock, of Leafield in the County of Oxfordshire. He was born in 1914 and educated at Oxford University before working as a research assistant for Winston Churchill on his book A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. Bullock was a history fellow at New College, Oxford, and was instrumental in the founding of St Catherine's College. He is well known for his book Hitler: A Study in Tyranny (1952), which was the first complete biography of Adolf Hitler and influenced many subsequent major Hitler biographies. Bullock passed away in 2004.
